Sesame Street 50 Years

In 1966, Joan Ganz Cooney, a documentary producer at Channel 13, was offered an opportunity that would change the children’s media forever. Funded by the Carnegie Corporation, Joan traveled the country interviewing early learning experts, children’s television producers and filmmakers. The result was The Potential Uses of Television for Preschool Education, a report which layed out the blueprint for Sesame Street, Children's Television Workshop and the Joan Ganz Cooney Center at Sesame Workshop (a research and innovation lab).

In conjunction with the celebration of Sesame Street's 50th anniversary, Joan's report was re-released unedited, accompanied by present day reflections on its importance. The design looked to pay respect to the original report, with historical content presented in a monospace font (reminiscent of the original typewriter report), while present day reflections and notes are in a modern sans serif.
